Welcome to the Give!Local Guide Application process!
Mountain Xpress’ Give!Local Guide is Asheville’s easiest path to year-end giving. Inspired by other similar successful projects around the country, Give!Local helps about 50 nonprofits in their end-of-year fundraising and development, and makes giving fun and rewarding, particularly for younger people who may not be in the habit of giving. In addition, we will present Julian Awards (named after Julian Price) to full-time nonprofit employees (who makes less than $35,000) to reward and recognize them for their service to the community.
- We make decisions based on maintaining a balance of diversity (in organization size, scope and category), and on organization’s chance of success in the program. A viable plan of action will increase your chance of being selected. We strive to have about 30 percent turnover of participants to keep the program fresh.
- As you fill out this form, please pay special attention to word-length requirements. Answers that exceed them will be truncated or edited.
- If you are invited to participate in the Give!Local Guide and accept, we will need some materials from you, including a letter from your board, promotional materials for the Give!Local web and print guides, and the $250 participation fee. PLEASE NOTE: There is no fee to apply; the participation fee is due only if you are invited and agree to participate in Give!Local. What’s more, Xpress‘ G!LG guarantees the donations you receive will equal or exceed the $250 participation fee — or we’ll make up the difference.
- Following the conclusion of the 2017 G!LG project, Xpress will deliver to you the names and contact information of all your donors and the entire amount of funds you raised (minus any credit card transaction fees, typically around 2.5 percent of your total).
- To be successful, the Give!Local Guide campaign will be time-intensive for you and your nonprofit. Each nonprofit will need to develop a strategy that may include developing incentives, matching grants, events and business partners. Please make sure you and your organization are prepared to make the requisite resource commitment.
- Each nonprofit will be asked to designate a representative to serve on a G!LG committee (e.g., orientation, party planning, communications, etc).
- Staff turnover in your organization prior to and during the campaign will hurt your results. It’s important that once you are invited to participate and accept, your development director or primary G!LG point of contact remain on staff through March 31 2018.
- When answering questions below, please be as specific as you can about what your organization will do during the G!LG campaign to be successful.
- Nonprofits will be notified regarding the status of their application in early April or sooner.
- Give!Local Guide will go online on Nov. 1 at mountainx.com and the print guide will be distributed area-wide in Mountain Xpress and at selected additional locations. Extra copies of the print guide will be available for all G!LG nonprofits as support material to use to self-promote.
- If you have any questions, please feel free to email Give!Local Guide’s Director, Susan Hutchinson, at shutchinson@mountainx.com
