Organizers for the Women's March on Asheville announced on Jan. 8, 2020 that there will be no event held in January.

In a Facebook post, organizers said the financial strain was too much this year, explaining fees total over $7,000 with insurance and permits.

The organization encouraged others to attend the Black Mountain march on Jan. 18, 2020.

They said there will be a march later in September, closer to election time.

The march has been part of a nationwide effort, starting in 2017 on the day President Trump was inaugurated. One of the original Asheville organizers Marie Germain said the march was created to empower anyone who feels marginalized whether because of their race, gender, or ethnicity.
