Southside Community Farm (SCF) needs your help providing fresh food to the Southside community! Located in the historically Black and rapidly gentrifying Southside neighborhood, SCF is entering it's 8th season of farming, connecting neighborhood residents to healthy produce and celebrating diverse food cultures. The Southside neighborhood is home to nearly 50% of Asheville’s public housing, including Erskine, Walton Street and Livingston Heights. With little to no healthy food options locally available, Southside Community Farm strives to provide not only our own produce but a collaborative route to food justice through partnerships, educational programming, and events.

This season we are excited to continue impactful programming like our monthly Southside BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) Farmers Markets, Fourth Sunday Community Brunches, and BIPOC-Only Garden Days. We are also starting some amazing new projects like our Southside Grocery Program where we will provide fresh vegetables, eggs, cheese, meat, and other pantry staples to folks free of charge. We will source local, culturally appropriate foods and prioritize BIPOC farmers and producers, paying market price for all the goods we purchase. In addition to our Grocery Program we are starting up a Veggie Mobile to get produce directly to folks in public housing who don't have time, energy, or ability to come directly to the garden.

We need your help to keep the momentum going and start up these new initiatives as we move towards neighborhood food sovereignty. Funds will help us purchase new tools, supplies, plant starts, and support getting food out into the community in a variety of ways while supporting local and BIPOC farmers and producers!

Local youth learn how to plant collard greens as part of an environmental science and food justice program.

In summer, the farm is full of flowers, fresh food, and joy!

Young community members prepare fresh salsa from produce they harvested themselves.

With additional funding, we hope to expand the Southside Community Orchard into a diverse food forest full of berry bushes, culinary herbs, medicinal plants, and more!
